oldest Christian welfare organization, providing short-term residential
housing for up to 21 men.

environment within a Christian atmosphere, where men who have lost almost everything
can attempt to make a fresh new start.
Spiritual guidance and emotional/psychological counseling with a full-time pastor
as Managing Director.
A structured and disciplined community where residents can begin to assimilate
improved values and principles for living a more wholesome, fulfilling life
in harmony with their immediate families.
Open to men of all faiths, races and walks of life.
Interdenominational worship service every Sunday morning (attendance for residents
is mandatory).
Assists in helping homeless men find gainful employment within the community.
Counsels individuals with drug, alcohol and other addictive behaviors, family
problems, or past criminal records.
Communicates and works with families of residents as needed.
Guides and monitors savings plans for each resident.
Counsels residents in preparing an exit strategy for life outside the Mission
prior to their departure from it.
Collects and distributes clothing and toys for children at Christmas.
Distributes food vouchers to hundreds of people in Charleston at Christmastime,
through the generous contributions of individuals to The Post & Courier's
Good Cheer Fund. The Star Gospel Mission is one of five recipients of monies
donated to the Good Cheer Fund.
Offers emergency financial assistance to the community, including: medical,
dental, utilities, rent, food and transportation expenses.
Supported by numerous local churches, civic organizations, businesses and concerned
individuals throughout the greater Charleston area.
Associated with His Way Ministries, a national Christian rehabilitation program
for incarcerated men and those recently released from prison.
Maintains a strong affiliation with the South Carolina Food Bank and the Thrift
Store of Charleston.
