In 2016, the Palmetto Clean Energy Program (PaCE) provided limited grants for solar PV systems on men’s homeless shelters in the state of South Carolina. The HSGS team assisted Star Gospel Mission in applying for and being awarded a grant from PaCE to install the solar energy system. The solar PV system at Star Gospel Mission was designed and installed by the HSGS crew. Consisting of 64 solar panels and mounted to the roof using an ballasted racking structure, the system delivers 17.3 kW DC in power to the shelter. Star Gospel Mission expects to receive energy cost savings of approximately $5,500 in year one and $154,000 over the 40 year useful life of the system.
